Landon Donovan

Perhaps the most recognizable face among American soccer fans over the last two decades, Donovan is now part of the ownership group of the United Soccer League club in San Diego. The San Diego team will play its inaugural season by the turn of the decade. Donovan led the U.S. Men’s National Team to the quarter-finals of the 2002 dual-hosted World Cup in Japan and South Korea, along with a group stage appearance in the 2006 World Cup in Germany, and the round of sixteen during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Due to a falling out between Donovan and coach Jürgen Klinsmann he was left off of the 2014 World Cup roster, which consequently led him to retire from international play and focus more on playing his final Major League Soccer season, for the LA Galaxy.

During the time he spent with LA he led the team to victory in the MLS Cup four times (2005, 2011, 2012, 2014), Supporters Shield twice (2010 and 2011), and the 2005 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
