Fiesta Bowl Parade Grand Marshal: Julie Ertz

Julie Ertz is a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team, and plays professionally for the Chicago Red Stars, of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL). She played Division One College Soccer at Santa Clara, and is a Mesa, Arizona native.

Ertz lit-up the college world, from 2010 through 2013, during her time at Santa Clara. She scored 31 goals in 79 games, and earned All-American Honors in 2011 and 2013. In 2010, Ertz won the West Coast Conference (WCC) Freshman of the Year, and Soccer America All-Freshman First-Team Honors. In 2013, she became the WCC Player of the Year. Ertz was drafted third, by the Chicago Red Stars, in the 2014 NWSL Draft.

Ertz has scored 6 goals in 72 games with the Red Stars. In 2014, Ertz won the NWSL Rookie of the Year. She was selected to the NWSL Best XI in 2015, and the Second XI in 2016, 2017, and 2018.

Ertz made her first appearance in a U.S. Soccer uniform on February 9th, 2013, against Scotland. She’s played a total of 95 games for the U.S. Team, with 19 goals, and two World Cup Victories (2015, 2019). Ertz was named U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in 2017, and again in 2019, while finishing runner-up in 2018.

With Ertz’s resume, it was fitting for the Mesa native to be named Grand Marshal for the Fiesta Bowl Parade, which took place in Phoenix, on December 28th.
