Senior Recognition: Olivia Mehaffey

Keeping to the theme of senior night, conducted by ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, intended to recognize the remarkable careers of college seniors who had their season cut short, due to the cancellation of NCAA events amid the Coronavirus pandemic, I decided to join the fun. Today’s spotlight features Arizona State golfer Olivia Mehaffey.

Since arriving at the prestigious Arizona State women’s golf program, Mehaffy has been the star of the team. In her Freshman season, Olivia won three matches in the 2017 NCAA Tournament Finals, helping the Sun Devils to their 8th National Championship in school history, the most by any school. She also earned First-Team Pac-12 All-Conference Honors that year. In her sophomore season, she once again earned All-Conference Honors, and finished tied for 5th in the Pac-12 Championships. The accolades continued for Mehaffy in her junior season, where she won the 2019 individual Pac-12 Championship, becoming the 13th Sun Devil to win a conference championship, and earned First-Team All-Conference Honors for a third straight year. Her championship made Arizona State the most successful program in conference history. Mehaffy also earned All-American Honors in each of her first three seasons. Had she been able to finish her senior season, Mehaffy would have been a four-time All-American, which would have made her just the third Sun Devil in school history to have that distinction.

Olvia Mehaffy also competes in international golf tournaments as a member of the United Kingdom Team. She recently earned a spot in the Arnold Palmer Cup, set to take place on July 3rd through the 5th in Clare, Ireland. She will participate as a member of the international team, along with ASU teammate Linn Grant, as they face-off against Team USA.

Congratulations Olivia Mehaffy. I wish you the best.
