Max Scherzer

Max Scherzer is a professional baseball player. He’s 37 years-old. He competes in Major League Baseball. He competed for the University of Missouri baseball team. Scherzer has played for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers, and New York Mets throughout the duration of his big league career, which began in 2008. He is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Cy Young Award winner, and a World Series champion.

Max Scherzer was drafted by the Saint Louis Cardinals in the 43rd round of the 2003 MLB Draft, but he opted to attend college and play baseball for the University of Missouri. During his freshman season, Scherzer struggled with balance in his delivery. He worked on his mechanics in the offseason and went on to achieve great success in his sophomore season. Scherzer pitched in 16 games for the Tigers in his sophomore season and finished the year with a 1.86 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 106 innings pitched. Scherzer won the 2005 Big 12 Pitcher of the Year Award.

After two years in college, Max Scherzer declared for the MLB Draft. He was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the 11th overall pick in the 2006 MLB Draft. He made his Major League Baseball debut on April 29, 2008. He spent most of the 2008 season as a relief pitcher. He went 0-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 16 games and struckout 66 batters in 56 innings. Scherzer became a member of the Diamondbacks rotation in 2009. In 30 starts, he went 9-11 with a 4.12 ERA, and 174 strikeouts in 170&⅓ innings pitched. Scherzer was traded at the end of the 2009 season. He was part of a package deal that involved 3 teams. The Diamondbacks traded Scherzer, Daniel Schlereth, Phil Coke, and Austin Jackson to the Detroit Tigers in exchange for Edwin Jackson, meanwhile the New York Yankees gave the Diamondbacks Ian Kennedey in exchange for Curtis Granderson.

Max Scherzer made his first appearance with the Detroit Tigers on May 30th, 2010. He won his first Cy Young Award in 2013. He was also an All-Star in 2013. This was the first of 8 All-Star selections for Scherzer. He made his second All-Star Game with the Tigers In 2014. He was MLB wins leader in 2013 and 2014. He became a free agent after the 2014 season.

Max Scherzer signed a contract with the Washington Nationals ahead of the 2015 season. He won his second Cy Young Award in 2016, and his third Cy Young in 2017. He was MLB wins leader in 2016 and 2018. Scherzer was also the NL strikeout leader for three straight seasons from 2016 to 2018. Scherzer pitched two no-hitters in 2015. The first on June 20, and the second on October 3. Scherzer won the World Series with the Washington Nationals in 2019. He was also an All-Star for the Nationals in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2021 (there was no All-Star Game in 2020 due to the shortened season). The Nationals traded Scherzer  to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the 2021 trade deadline. Dodgers received Scherzer and Trea Turner, and the Nationals received Josiah Gray, Keibert Ruiz, Donovan Casey, and Gerardo Carrillo. Scherzer was part of a Dodgers team that won 106 games in 2021, but ultimately fell short of the World Series.

Max Scherzer is one of 19 pitchers to be part of the exclusive 3 thousand strikeout club. He recorded his 3,000th strikeout on September 12, 2021 when he struck out Eric Hosmer. Only one active pitcher has reached this mark. Justin Verlander, a former teammate of Scherzer, reached 3 thousand strikeouts on September 28, 2019 when he struck out Kole Calhoun.

Max Scherzer signed a free agent deal with the New York Mets in the Off-season. The Mets currently have a 20-10 record in 2022.
