Jelena Ostapenko is a Latvian professional tennis player. She’s 25 years-old. She competes on the WTA Tour. She is a major champion and former world number 5. Her highest doubles ranking was world number 17. Ostapenko has competed for Latvia in the Fed Cup. She also competed in the Youth Olympics in 2014.

Jelena Ostapenko made her professional debut in 2012. She won her first WTA singles title at the 2017 French Open. She was 20 years-old at the time. Ostapenko’s journey to the title was unique in several categories. She was 19 years-old when she made it to the semifinals, becoming the first teenager since Ana Ivanovic in 2007 to reach the semifinals at the French Open. Ostapenko turned 20 on the day of the semifinals. She became the first unseeded player to reach the final at the French Open since Mima Jausovec in 1983. Ostapenko became the first Latvian player to reach the final of a Grand Slam tournament. She became the first unseeded woman to win the French Open title since Margaret Scriven in 1933. Ostapenko became the first tennis player to win their first singles title at a Grand Slam tournament since Gustavo Kuerten won the 1997 French Open men’s singles title, which by a weird coincidence, happened on the day that Ostapenko was born. Ostapenko’s victory propelled her to world number 12. Ostapenko won her second WTA singles title in Seoul later that year. She finished 2017 as the world number 7.

Jelena Ostapenko made it to the Wimbledon semifinals in 2018. She lost to Angie Kerber, who went on to win that year’s Wimbledon ladies singles title. Ostapenko would rise to world number 5 in 2018. Unfortunately, injuries derailed Ostapenko’s season and she finished 2018 as the number 22nd ranked player in the world.

Jelena Ostapenko earned her third WTA singles title in 2019 at the Luxembourg Open. She defeated Julia Gorges in the final. This was Ostapenko’s first singles title since her victory at the 2017 Korea Open in Seoul. Ostapenko beat Anett Kontaveit in the 2021 Eastbourne International to claim her 4th WTA singles title. She won her 5th WTA singles title at the 2022 Dubai Tennis Championships. She had to beat four Grand Slam champions in order to get to the final. Ostapenko’s wins came against Sofia Kenin, Iga Swiatek, Petra Kvitova, and Simona Halep. She beat Veronika Kudermetova in the final. Ostapenko currently sits just outside the top 15 at world number 16 as of June 6, 2022.

Jelena Ostapenko has four WTA doubles titles. she was ranked as high as world number 17 in march 2020. her current doubles ranking is world number 21 as of June 6, 2022.

Jelena Ostapenko has competed for Latvia at the Fed Cup. She competed at the Youth Olympics in 2014 where she won a Bronze Medal in doubles paired with Akvile Parazinskaite from Lithuania.

Jelena Ostapenko recently celebrated her 25th birthday on June 8th.
