Allie Long

Allie Long is an American soccer player. She’s 34 years-old. She competes in the National Women’s Soccer league. She has played for the Portland Thorns FC, OL Reign, and Gotham FC. Allie has competed for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer team since 2014. She was part of the 2019 team that won the World Cup.

Allie Long began her collegiate career in 2005 at Penn State University. She had 4 goals on 58 shots, and recorded 6 assists in her first season. The Nittany Lions went 23-0-2 in 25 games in 2005. In 2006, Long played in 21 games and scored 6 goals with 4 assists. She scored goals in games against Iowa, Northwestern, Minnesota, and Illinois. Long transferred out of Penn State following the conclusion of her sophomore season.

Allie Long attended the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill beginning in her junior year in 2007. She played in 24 games and scored 5 goals for the Tar Heels in 2007. The Tar Heels won the 2008 NCAA Soccer National Championship in Long’s senior season.

Allie Long began her professional soccer career in 2009. She was selected by the Washington Freedom as the 7th overall pick of the 2009 Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS) draft. The WPS held its inaugural season in 2009. Long played 18 games for the Washington Freedom in 2009. The team finished 3rd in the WPS regular season standings, but suffered a first round defeat to the Sky Blue FC. Long played in 21 games for the Freedom in 2010. They finished 4th in the regular season standings, but the Freedom lost in the opening round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia Independence. Long scored 4 goals in 39 total games with the Freedom.

Allie Long played for Sky Blue FC in 2011. She played in 18 games and scored 3 goals. Sky Blue FC finished in 5th place in the WPS regular season standings and did not qualify for the postseason. This was Long’s lone season with the Sky Blue FC.

The 2012 WPS season was canceled due to financial problems. The league intended to resume operations in 2013, but that effort failed and the league folded.

Allie Long joined the Portland Thorns FC of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), which was the successor league to the WPS. The inaugural season for the newly formed NWSL took place in 2013. The Portland Thorns FC won the league’s first title game. The Thorns made the semifinals in 2014 and 2016. They captured their second title in 2017. Long was the leading goal scorer for the Thorns in 2015. After five seasons in Portland, Allie Long finished with the second most goals on the team. She scored 30 goals in 105 games.

Allie Long was traded from the Portland Thorns to the Seattle Reign FC (later rebranded OL Reign) ahead of the 2018 NWSL season. Long played for the Reign from 2018 to 2021. She scored 3 goals in 38 games.

In 2021 Allie Long’s contract was purchased by the NJ/NY Gotham FC. in 24 games with Gotham FC, Long has scored 1 goal.

Allie Long plays for the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team. She was on the team that won the 2019 World Cup. In 51 games with the U.S. National Team, Long has scored 8 goals.
