Scott Rolen

Scott Rolen is a retired professional baseball player. He’s 47 years-old. He played major league baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies, St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and the Cincinnati Reds. He is a 7-time All-Star, World Series champion, and NL Rookie of the Year. Rolen is also an 8-time Gold Glove Award winner. He is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Scott Rolen was born in Evansville, Indiana in 1975. He attended Jasper High School and was a multi-sport athlete. In 1993, Rolen’s senior year of high school, he was named Mr. Baseball in the state of Indiana, competed on the tennis team, and was a high school basketball All-Star. Rolen committed to the University of Georgia on a basketball scholarship, but eventually decided to forego college when he signed a minor league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was then assigned to the Martinsville Phillies, the Single-A affiliate to the big league club. Rolen spent the next three seasons playing in the Phillies Farm System.

Scott Rolen made his major league debut for the Phillies on August 1, 1996. He won the NL Rookie of the Year in 1997. He won his first Gold Glove Award in 1998. He won his second Gold Glove in 2000. He won two more Gold Gloves in 2001 and 2002. Rolen made his first All-Star Game in 2002. Rolen was then traded to the St. Louis Cardinals at the trade deadline and finished the rest of the season in St. Louis. He won the 2002 Silver Slugger Award.

Scott Rolen signed an 8-year/$90 million contract extension with the Cardinals following the conclusion of the 2002 season. Rolen made the All-Star Game four years in a row from 2003-2006. He was on the Cardinals team that won the 2006 World Series. Rolen won an additional three Gold Gloves in 2003, 2004, and 2006. Rolen was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays after the 2007 season.

Scott Rolen played his first season with the Blue Jays in 2008. He started the 2009 season in toronto but was traded midseason to the Cincinnati Reds. He spent the remainder of the 2009 season with the Reds.

Scott Rolen played in his first full season with the Reds in 2010. Rolen made it to the All-Star Game twice during his time with the Reds, in 2010 and 2011. He won his final Gold Glove Award in 2010. Rolen retired from professional baseball following the 2012 season.

Scott Rolen retired with a lifetime batting average of .281, with 2,077 hits, 316 home runs, and 1,287 runs batted in. He won 8 Gold Gloves and made it to 7 All-Star Games. Rolen was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2023, his 6th year appearing on the ballot. Needing at least 75% of the vote, Rolen received 76.3%. Rolen will be inducted in the Summer alongside fellow 2023 Hall of Fame Class member Fred McGriff.
